Our feline friendly approach
From the moment you book an appointment, we have considered how to make your cat feel more comfortable when they’re with us. Here are some examples below;
- We offer cat only appointment slots on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings – with emergencies aside we aim to have a quiet, dog free waiting room at these times.
- We have a cat privacy stand with blankets. Your cats carrier can be elevated onto a purpose built unit and covered by a blanket to provide privacy and a sense of safety.
- There is the option to have your cat wait in another room if they are particularly distressed by the waiting area. We make every effort to hospitalise cats and dogs in separate rooms when they stay for a procedure.
- Pheromones are plugged in around the clinic to offer reassuring smells.
- All staff are trained to use minimal handling techniques tailored to your pet and their individual needs.
- We adopt fear-free handling for cats, focusing on reducing fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) by using gentle control, positive reinforcement, and environmental modifications rather than harsh restraint.
- Even with fear free handling techniques, some patients require medications for handling. This is something that we are happy to discuss based on the individuals requirements.
- We have a spacious consultation room, which allows your pet to free roam during their appointment. This gives your cat the opportunity to move freely and become relaxed in this new environment.
- Dr Monika is a GP Feline Practice certificate holder and is in the process of completing an animal behaviour course, specifically focusing on feline behaviour. She is able to care for your pets physical and emotional well being.
If you have any questions or concerns prior to your visit please call or email the surgery and a member of the team will be happy to talk with you.
